The smallest mammal in the world, this tiny bat weighs less than 2 grams. Its body is about the size of a large bumblebee

This species constitutes the sole known representative of an entire family of bats (Craseonycteridae)---also known as Kitti's Hog-nosed bat, is an endangered species of bat. The Bumblebee bat was discovered in 1974.

In 2007, Kitti's Hog-nosed Bat was identified by the Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) project as one of its Top 10 "focal species"
